please contact sally on 01359 268923 traction and stationary engines many years ago machines like this dominated british agriculture. in fact not only agriculture but many areas of industry. from ploughing the fields to harvesting the crops, road haulage, timber extraction.... see these impressive monsters in action, some working the same machines they did 80 to 100 years ago. demonstrations include a working mobile sawmill, threshing machine.... the sight, sound and smell of steam never fails to impress. steam power was as vital a part of the revolution in agriculture as it was in the industrial revolution. as our event is an event of many parts, aiming to suit all tastes, we deliberately have a small but carefully picked selection of mainly agricultural engines on show. all the full sized engines on display have had a full working life in the countryside, mostly during the early part of the last century, running threshing machines for the mobile threshing contractors, powering a rack-saw for cutting timber or on haulage duties. many of the various manufacturers are represented, some built in east anglia and we are always particularly pleased to see a burrell or two, manufactured just up the road in thetford. they have all been lovingly restored from various states of neglect, are meticulously maintained and enthusiastically rallied by their owners and carers, most doing the "circuit" of steam rallies during the summer months. we are also pleased to host a variety of scale models steam engines. some are carefully manufactured from scratch replicas of full size counterparts, while others are built from kits, but all are fully functioning and safety tested steam engines and a credit to their builders and owners. -- classic and vintage cars stewards sue & ian lord we are hoping for another record year of entries, each year the numbers have increased and although we have the space to display the cars, we are hoping to alleviate any congestion on arrival and departure by limiting the cars to 400. so if you are thinking of showing your car, please bear this in mind, by entering early. as in previous years we are well supported by the classic car enthusiasts, who come to join in the fun and when parked together create a stunning spectacle for us. we will have entries from various clubs, rolls royce enthusiasts club, daimler & lanchester club, norfolk vehicle club, bury retro car club, newmarket and district vehicle club, norfolk austin 7 club, austin healey club, phoenix cherished vehicle club, reliant, stag owners club and the north norfolk classic vehicle club, tr register, wymondham old timers, brandon & district, jaguar, naylor car club, suffolk vehicle enthusiasts and bmw owners club as well as many individual entries. we are so grateful to these groups as well as all the individuals who take the time to care for these wonderful vehicles to preserve them for future generations and then bring them to share for one day, with us all. we welcome entries from any car that is over 25 years old and accept entries from younger cars that are part of a club group. this year the cars will be judged to find the best car in two groups, those built before 1939 and those built after that. our judge this year will be mr alistair george of honington. as usual we will be choosing an interesting selection of cars to go into the grafton ring for our special display and we will endeavour to give you interesting information and the story behind each one. do come and join us. the owners are true enthusiasts and will be happy to talk to you about their unique vehicles as you wander up and down the rows. do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have. fingers crossed for a warm, sunny day, with lots of visitors, to help us raise much needed funds for st nicholas hospice and other charities. we wish you all a wonderful day out. come and view these magnificent vehicles and chat to the owners who will be delighted to discuss their vehicles with you. in 2017 the event raised more than 25,000 for local charities. please contact: [email protected] -- tractors first there was the horse ... and then there was the tractor . a bit of a lie actually because traction engines came in between, and human power preceded everything the tractor took agriculture to where it is now...higher yeilding crops, easier, faster, versatile and less labour intensive. more to the point can be switched on or off at will and eats nothing in between. the tractors you see come from the very begining of the tractor era through to fairly "modern" machines.....well 1970's. household names like john deere, massey ferguson, allis chalmers, ford(son), international, david brown..... and many more. a colourful array, each make has its own distinctive livery -
